Office Complex and Landmark Tower to Come Up in Callaghan Square in Cardiff

A landmark tower and six office buildings are being erected at the Callaghan Square on St. Mary Street in Butetown, Cardiff, as part of a development project. The complex will be spread over 160,00sq feet, and once it is completed, no brownfield piece of land will remain in the Callaghan Square area. Thus, the complex is being seen as the last stage of years of efforts to develop the area.

The complex is being built with an investment of more than £160 million and it is expected to attract some big corporate buyers. The first of the buildings, which will consist of up to 12 floors, has already been sold for £9.8 million. The development is being seen as a wise investment for those companies looking for premises with shared office space.

MPEC company had received the approval to build the complex with full consent of the voters some time back. The Councillors, however, demanded the building of a landmark tower as part of the project. As a result, MPEC had to make changes in the project plan and had to seek fresh approvals, which allowed construction of taller buildings.

The office complex will require a part of the local railway to be shifted, which will cause inconvenience to the commuters. The functioning of a primary school in the area is also likely to see some impact.

MPEC has announced that it would be building vehicle parking areas, shops, and restaurants to support the complex. It will also be building public roads to make the area easily accessible, but locals seem to believe that this might not be good enough, especially if the railway will have to be closed down temporarily.
